This Dom Perignon Rose Champagne is such a tiny allocation and it was really hard getting it. Our last few deals just fell through because we were not happy with the prices.
The Vintage is 2002. Dom Perignon is the most prestigious Champagne that Moët & Chandon produce.
How much do you know about Dom Perignon? You can find lots of information on the web but I’ll explain in brief about this prestigious Champagne.
Dom Perignon is named after a Benedictine Monk who pioneered Champagne for its quality in 1668. His ambition was to create the best wine in the world. The first vintage was 1921 and introduced by an Englishman. Back in 2008 a 1959 vintage was auctioned off for 24,758 Euros. Dom Perignon Champagne is revered by many enthusiasts as a prestigious and thrilling Champagne of superb quality. It is challenged by many other brands in the market but keeps coming out on top in terms of following and admiration from critics around the world.
Vintage Dom Perignon 2002 Price
Our last month’s recommendation is showing 9% up from our bid price and this one looks also like it will show in profit on your portfolio as soon as you buy it.
We have bought all the stock in Europe that we could find at this price. The next merchant close to it is 7% higher.
There’s not much stock around, it could be the Champagne houses holding it back from the market while the price is going up. I’m sure they also want to capitalize on the growth of the top Champagnes at the moment.
Dom Perignon is always on the wine list of the most famous and exclusive places around the world and its starting to become big in some of the best Shanghai restaurants in China.
It was really difficult to get any kind of quantity, we had to buy it from several merchants who are direct distributors of the Champagne and we took everything they had.
Distributors for Moet Hennessy are restricted on the number of cases they can offer to one party hence we had to buy it from several distributors.
Because it’s a Rose it fetches a much higher price than the BRUT version of Dom Perignon. The reason a Rose is more expensive is because its harder and more time consuming to make. A typical style of making Rose is to dip red grape skins into the juice to that wonderful pink colour tainting which takes a considerable effort.
The lowest price I can find in the UK market is Sotheby’s selling it for 2320 Pounds for 12 bottles. That could be their starting auction price. The next merchant I can see is selling it for 2350 pounds, that’s way above our recommended price.
Liv ex’s benchmark market price is 2330 pounds/case. Livex’s 30 day average list price is 2700 pounds/case.
The price I am recommending it to you is 2200 Pounds for 12 bottles plus storage charges.
This vintage 2002 is one of the best vintages they made, Antonio Galloni who was Robert Parkers main critic for Champagne gave it a 98 point rating so it’s very much a blockbuster vintage. He said “What a wine it is and it explodes from the glass. The closest rating to this 2002 vintage is the 1996 which has 97 points and it’s trading for 3200 pounds. The 1982 vintage has 95 Points and its market price today is 8000 Pounds/case, that’s 265% more expensive, just to give you an idea what returns this offers over the long term. With the performance of the Champagne market at the moment I would consider there is potential for it to do similar returns if you are willing to keep this for the long haul.
This 2002 is a great buy recommendation at 2200 pounds a case of 12 bottles. The market price of the Dom Perignon 2000 Rose is 2150 Pounds, it only has 96 points. This 2002 vintage with 98 points is 2% more expensive.
The next few years are going to be very exciting for Champagne. We can see the interest gaining in China and the market should continue to push up the prices of the Champagne market and this is probably your best chance to buy them while they are still reasonably priced.
We are anticipating growth over the next 2-3 years but you might remember when all the first growths started going up in price 9 years ago and how quickly the prices went up. Could the same happen to Champagne?
