Although it is known for being the best wine in the world, this is the only first growth from the commune of Margaux. Château Margaux is suffused with aristocracy, luxury and indeed tragedy in its colourful history. Its grand portico symbolises Bordeaux.

This vintage 1996 is still within their original wooden cases and all labels are in perfect condition. This is in short supply in good quantity so please reserve your position quickly.
This wine will make an extremely good investment in both the short term and long term due to its demand now and over the next few years as its consumption increases its rarity in the market. This wine is being served in fine restaurants across the world, as it becomes harder to source the price will continue to rise. Therefore the longer you can hold onto this wine the better.
The Market
Château Margaux is known as a rather romantic wine. A 1900 vintage Château Margaux is priced today at £60,000 which was probably only purchased for a few shillings when first released. Of course we do not expect you to keep this wine forever but long term cellerage of fine wine generally yields good results consistently.
Despite its tumultuous history, Château Margaux has always been awarded top marks by noted wine critics time after time. In a decanter tasting in December 2002, the Margaux was highly recommended with five stars. Tasting notes stated that the wine has a toasty, slight smokiness, fruity taste with a bold, rich palate. It is suggested to drink the wine within five to ten years.
Stevn Tanzer gave the wine 96 points out of a possible 100 and went on to describe it as “bright full and ruby. Dense and tactile in the mouth; a huge, chewy wine with major extract but also considerable refinement. Pure, perfumed aromas of cassis and violet. Another great expression of cabernet sauvignon from the ’96 vintage. Drink from 2015 through to 2040.”
After tasting the wine on New Year’s Eve 2000, Strats Place noted that the Château Margaux 1996 was “dense and concentrated. With a colour so deep it might justifiably be considered black, an almost flowery bouquet which boasts flavours of berries and minerals. Drink in eight to ten years.” Strats Place then went on to score the wine a huge 94 points.
