2020 recommendations achieved 11.2% growth!

The big winners this month were Mouton Rothschild 2018 with 10%, Leoville Barton 2000 & Dom Perignon 03 also at 10% gains for the month of December.
Chart above shows every 2020 recommendation from Jan to Dec.
Total growth was a whopping 11.2% for ONLY the 2020  recommendations.
Wine investors normally hold a wine for at least 1-2 years for the bid price to appreciate above the ask price.
But not in 2020, it has been a spectacular performance for our newest recommendations.
Our negotiating power and long term relationships with winemakers and merchants around the world has become so positive that we are able to negotiate even lower prices for investors.  Getting you in profits earlier than ever.

UK and EU finally agree on a deal 

Researching new whisky investments towards the end of December was put on hold due to uncertain outcomes for alcohol laws on import and export between Europe and the UK.
Now there is a deal on the table with the UK and the EU, we will continue to have new whisky investments to offer you in the upcoming weeks.
There is strong demand in the fine and rare whisky market.
Our goal in the first quarter is to sell some of our whisky investments through Auction houses.  Look out for news on this experience when it has been completed successfully.

Reflections on 2020 
The new year for wine trading in 2021 started early this year, Asian wine buyers through Christmas and New Year, continued the drive in market activity giving the market little time to rest.  We were back to work earlier than expected.
Expectations for growth are positive in 2021 with more positive aspects to potential growth than negatives.
Liv-ex did not mirror the same amazing growth as our recommendations to private clients.
London Vintners Exchange reported a return of 5.43% for the year for the Liv-ex 100 which is the top 100 traded fine wines.
The best performing wine for 2020 was Chateau L’Eglise Clinet Pomerol 2010 with 37% return over a 12 month period.
Wine & Spirits investing setup for a good year with prospects of Brexit agreements settled between the UK and the EU.
Free trade agreement finally concluded: There will be zero tariffs on alcohol coming into the UK from the EU Member States from 1 January 2021.
Vaccine roll out is shining some light on the potential for F&B to pick up again towards the third quarter 2021.

Selling whisky is similar to the wine auction market 20 years ago
  • Years ago, wine from the secondary market was easier to sell via auction from a collector’s cellar.
  • Over the last 20 years, the market has matured and with the emergence of fine wine trading platforms, it has become more popular to sell wines via these platforms, brokers and merchants worldwide.
  • Whisky is a market that is new to investors, with only an emergence of investor presence in recent years.
  • Whisky is similar to the wine auction market, many years ago.
  • Buyers can find sellers of specific fine and rare whisky with the added security of an auction house checking the authenticity of the product.

The figures for December
This month’s valuations showed the Bordeaux market has increased by 0.61% for the month. Champagne and Rhone Valley wines have decreased -0.47%.
–   34.8% of the wines valued showed a positive return, while 19.9% showed a negative return and 45.4% remained the same.

–   82.3% of our portfolio is Bordeaux while 14.2% is Champagne and Rhone Valley and our new addition of Whisky investments make up 3.5%

–   The overall change for ALL the wines valued this month was UP +0.53%

U.S Dollar Update !
The USD continues to remain weak, although made a slight recovery in the last 10 days. Will the beaten-down U.S. dollar’s bounce last? It may depend on bond yields.
Right now, the future of the U.S. dollar seems to be on the weak side.
The year 2020 is ending with it costing about $1.23 to purchase one euro; it costs more than $1.36 to acquire one pound; one dollar can buy about 6.5225 Chinese Yuan; and the U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) has dropped to close to 89.50.

Bitcoin takes a hit, will it and how fast can it rebound?  

On Friday, Bitcoin reached its record high of $41,500 per bitcoin. A growth surge of 260% in just 3 months!

On January 9, the price tumbled more than 20% overnight.  Bitcoin’s plunge to as low as $30,305 was intensified from leveraged long derivative liquidations; options traders are totally bearish on ether, the native asset of Ethereum.
