Market Performance

During the wine market boom led by the huge influx of Chinese buyers, from 2009-2011, Lafite was the most sought-after brand in China. Prices skyrocketed, even more than the other first growths. In just two years, Lafite index has went up a whopping 140%.

For those who are sceptical of Lafite’s popularity, let’s take for example Lafite Rothschild 2008. In October 2010, it was announced that the label of Lafite Rothschild 2008 will carry a Chinese character of the number 8, which signifies abundance and wealth. The market responded positively that trades went up 67% instantly compared to the month before.

When the China-fueled bubble started to burst, Lafite’s index started to decline and fell 37% in two years.

Lafite’s Recovery

Lafite’s recovery started from beginning 2016. It’s recovery is nothing short of remarkable. It’s the best performing first growth being up 29.2% and it even outperformed the Fine Wine 50 which is up 25%.
